Why travel?
After Noah relapsed, his family sought treatment beyond their home hospital, knowing that experts across the country were conducting innovative clinical trials for relapsed neuroblastoma. With guidance from other parents in an online support group, they made the difficult decision to travel for care, despite the challenges of being away from home and frequently separated as a family.
Traveling for treatment was overwhelming, involving logistical hurdles like booking flights, securing lodging, coordinating hospital visits, and managing Noah’s health concerns. They chose CHLA because Noah’s oncologist was the director of NANT, an organization dedicated to developing clinical trials for relapsed neuroblastoma. While other hospitals also participated in these trials, they wanted direct access to her expertise and treatment options without delays. Recognizing the burden of travel, Noah’s family is now committed to helping other families by easing the stress of lodging during treatment.
